    Description

ABB TU834 Extended Module Termination Unit

Configured for direct field wiring and ModuleBus distribution in ABB S800 I/O systems, the ABB TU834 3BSE040364R1 (TU834 Module Termination Unit) provides physical terminal interfaces for up to 8 I/O channels and process voltage connections. Each channel provides two I/O connections and one ZP connection. The MTU also shifts outgoing position signals to generate the correct address for the next I/O module.

ABB S800 I/O Interface and ModuleBus Function

The TU834 provides the physical connection between compatible ABB S800 I/O modules and field wiring. Each of its 8 channels has two I/O terminals and one ZP connection, while individual shunt sticks TY801 connect input signals.

The MTU also distributes the ModuleBus to the following MTU. At the same time, it shifts the outgoing position signals so that the next I/O module receives its required address position. Therefore, correct MTU sequencing and mechanical installation directly affect I/O module addressing.

The TU834 supports DIN-rail installation and uses a mechanical latch to secure the unit to the rail. Installers can mount the unit in either permitted direction according to the system assembly arrangement.

For industrial control installations, the specified I/O density allows multiple field channels to terminate through one compact MTU. However, each channel must remain within the stated 50 V maximum voltage and 2 A maximum current limits.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many I/O channels does the ABB TU834 support?

A: The TU834 supports up to 8 I/O channels. Each channel provides two I/O connections and one ZP connection.

Q: What is the maximum electrical rating for each I/O channel?

A: The maximum rated voltage is 50 V, while the maximum current is 2 A per I/O channel. The maximum current for a process connection is 5 A.

Q: How does the TU834 handle ModuleBus and I/O addressing?

A: The MTU distributes ModuleBus to the next MTU and shifts outgoing position signals to generate the correct address position for the next I/O module.

    Field Installation Guidelines

    1. Mount the TU834 on a compatible standard DIN rail and engage the mechanical locking latch fully.
    2. Verify the mounting direction and maintain the required physical arrangement of adjacent S800 I/O components.
    3. Connect field wiring through the designated terminal connections and use TY801 shunt sticks for the specified input signal connections.
    4. Keep each I/O channel within the 50 V maximum voltage and 2 A maximum current ratings.
    5. Keep process connection loading within the specified 5 A maximum current.
    6. Use compatible conductor sizes: 0.2 - 4 mm2 for solid conductors or 0.2 - 2.5 mm2 for stranded conductors.
    7. Apply the specified terminal torque of 0.5 - 0.6 Nm and strip approximately 7 mm of insulation.
    8. Route signal wiring separately from high-energy power conductors where the installation environment requires noise reduction.
    9. Verify terminal identification before energizing the I/O circuit.
    10. Inspect the ModuleBus path and adjacent MTU sequence before commissioning to ensure correct position signal propagation and I/O addressing.
    11. Confirm the installation environment remains within the specified operating temperature, humidity, pollution, and IP20 conditions.
    12. Connect protective earth according to the applicable system installation requirements and the Class I equipment classification.
