Description
ICS Triplex T8191 Trusted Single Slot Width Shield
Configured for sealing vacant module positions in the Trusted TMR chassis, the ICS Triplex T8191 (T8191 Trusted Single Slot Width Shield) provides a single-width mechanical shield for unused chassis slots. The shield maintains the chassis enclosure and airflow path around installed I/O and communication modules.

Trusted TMR Safety Hardware Characteristics
The T8191 functions as a passive mechanical component within the Trusted TMR chassis. It does not execute control logic, process digital inputs, or provide an independent communication interface.
The single-width shield closes an unused module position and helps preserve the intended internal airflow path. It also provides physical separation around the backplane area and limits exposure of vacant positions to dust and foreign objects.
The component belongs to the Trusted TMR platform, which uses triple modular redundancy for safety-related processing. However, the T8191 itself does not provide TMR processing or 2oo3 voting logic. Its function remains mechanical and environmental.
For SIL3 system installations, the shield should be fitted according to the applicable Trusted chassis installation documentation. In particular, unused module positions should not be treated as functional module locations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the T8191 provide digital input channels?
A: No. The T8191 is a passive single-slot shield and does not contain digital input circuitry.
Q: Does the T8191 require a 24 VDC power connection?
A: No. A passive slot shield does not require an independent electrical power connection.
Q: Can the T8191 replace a three-slot shield?
A: No. The T8191 is designed for a single-width slot. A three-slot shield requires the corresponding three-slot model.
Field Installation Guidelines
Install the T8191 only in a compatible Trusted chassis position intended for a single-width shield.
Before installation, isolate the relevant cabinet equipment according to the site's maintenance procedure. Verify that the target slot is vacant and that no module requires that position.
Insert the shield squarely into the chassis opening and secure it using the chassis retention mechanism. Do not force the shield against the backplane or adjacent module hardware.
Keep the shield seated flush with the chassis structure. This helps maintain the intended airflow path and physical enclosure around installed modules.
Route external wiring so that it does not obstruct the shield or apply mechanical force to adjacent modules. Maintain separation between signal wiring and power wiring according to the cabinet wiring standard.
Where the chassis uses conductive shielding or cabinet bonding, maintain the specified enclosure bonding and grounding arrangement. Do not add an independent grounding connection to the passive shield unless the applicable installation documentation requires it.
