    Description

    Product Description

The IC200ERM002 is a VersaMax expansion receiver developed by GE Fanuc (Emerson) to extend the I/O capacity of PLC or NIU-based systems. It functions as the interface between the main rack and additional expansion racks, enabling scalable system architectures without compromising communication integrity.

This module is designed for distributed installations where multiple I/O bases must be interconnected. Using differential signaling over a dedicated expansion bus, it maintains reliable data transfer across extended distances while supporting flexible rack configurations.

    Expansion Architecture and System Capacity

    • Maximum expansion racks: 7

    • Modules per expansion rack: up to 8 I/O or specialty modules

    • Total system scalability: up to 56 additional modules

The module supports both compact single-rack extensions and multi-rack distributed layouts, depending on application requirements.

    Communication Interface

    • Expansion ports:

      • 2 × 26-pin D-sub (female) connectors

      • One for incoming connection, one for daisy-chain or termination

    • Signaling method: RS-485 differential expansion bus

    • Data transmission rate:

      • 2.765 Mbps

      • 5 Mbps (depending on system configuration)

This communication design ensures stable performance even in electrically noisy environments.

    Cable Configuration Options

    • Single-ended configuration:

      • Maximum cable length: 1 meter (3.3 ft)

      • Does not require expansion transmitter (ETM)

    • Multi-rack configuration:

      • Maximum cable length: 15 meters (50 ft)

      • Requires IC200ETM001 expansion transmitter module

    Electrical Characteristics

    • Backplane current consumption:

      • 5 V DC: 70 mA

      • 3.3 V DC: 20 mA

    • Power supply:

      • Provided via system backplane

      • External power distribution handled through associated power supply modules

    Mechanical Specifications

    • Dimensions: 66.8 × 128 × 69.1 mm

    • Weight: 0.49 lb

    • Installation position: Slot 0 (leftmost position) of expansion rack

    • Mounting method: DIN rail or panel mounting

    Diagnostics and Indicators

    • LED indicators include:

      • Power status

      • Expansion port activity (EXP1 / EXP2)

      • Module health

These indicators assist with commissioning and troubleshooting in multi-rack systems.

    Compatibility and Integration

    • Compatible with VersaMax PLC CPUs and NIUs

    • Supports all standard VersaMax I/O modules

    • Some analog or specialty modules may require specific hardware revisions

    Key Functional Features

    • Enables multi-rack expansion for VersaMax systems

    • Dual-port design supports daisy-chain topology

    • Reliable RS-485 communication for extended distances

    • Supports both short-distance and distributed configurations

    • Compact form factor aligned with VersaMax mechanical standards

    Application Scenarios

    • Distributed control systems with remote I/O panels

    • Large machinery with segmented control cabinets

    • Process plants requiring scalable I/O expansion

    • Infrastructure systems with physically separated control zones

    FAQ

Q: Is an expansion transmitter always required?
A: No. For short connections (≤1 meter), the receiver can operate without a transmitter. For longer or multi-rack setups, an ETM module is required.

Q: Where should this module be installed in the rack?
A: It must be installed in the first slot (slot 0) of the expansion rack to ensure correct communication.

Q: Does this module provide electrical isolation?
A: No. The IC200ERM002 is a non-isolated expansion receiver, so grounding and proper installation practices are important.
