Product Description
Overview
The KJ4001X1-HB1 is a high-reliability horizontal I/O bus carrier engineered for the DeltaV™ S-series DCS. It provides the structural and electrical backbone for mounting DeltaV I/O modules and terminal blocks, enabling seamless communication and consistent power distribution across the system. Designed for horizontal DIN rail installation, the carrier combines rugged construction with ergonomic design for simplified wiring and long-term durability.
Key Features
Integrated LocalBus Communication
The carrier incorporates a built-in redundant LocalBus that maintains high-speed, reliable communication between the DeltaV controller and each installed module. This ensures low-latency signal transfer and system integrity.
Power Distribution and Redundancy
The KJ4001X1-HB1 delivers both 12 VDC logic power and 24 VDC field power to installed I/O modules. It supports redundant power configurations to maintain continuous operation in case of a single power supply failure.
Modular Expandability
Multiple carriers can be interconnected using LocalBus extension cables, allowing systems to scale from a few dozen to thousands of I/O points within a single cabinet while maintaining robust communication and power distribution.
Rugged Design and Reliability
The carrier features a mechanical keying system to prevent incorrect module insertion, vibration resistance for industrial environments, and Class G3 conformal coating to resist corrosive airborne contaminants.

Installation and Maintenance
Modules and terminal blocks snap into place for tool-free installation. While hot-swappable operation is supported, carriers must not be removed or inserted with energized LocalBus or field circuits in hazardous areas. Inter-carrier cabling must not exceed 6.5 meters, and conduit is required between enclosures. No user serviceable parts are present; disassembly is not permitted.
Applications
-
DeltaV DCS systems requiring high-density I/O configurations
-
Multi-module cabinet deployments with scalable field connections
-
Hazardous area installations in chemical, oil, and gas facilities
-
Industrial environments with vibration and corrosive contaminant exposure
FAQs
Q: Can multiple carriers be linked to expand system I/O?
A: Yes, using LocalBus expansion cables, several KJ4001X1-HB1 carriers can be interconnected while maintaining reliable communication and power distribution.
Q: Is this carrier suitable for hazardous areas?
A: Yes, it is certified for ATEX Zone 2 and Class 1 Division 2 environments.
Q: Does the carrier require calibration or maintenance?
A: No calibration is required, and the unit contains no user-serviceable parts.
Q: Can I remove modules while the system is powered?
A: Modules can be hot-swapped in non-hazardous areas, but the carrier itself must not be removed while powered in hazardous locations.
