Description
Product Description
The Bently Nevada 3500/20 Rack Interface Module (RIM) is the central communication and configuration interface for the 3500 Machinery Protection System. Installed exclusively in Slot 1 of the rack beside the power supply modules, the RIM manages rack configuration, internal communications, system diagnostics, and external data exchange with compatible communication processors.
The 3500/20 module acts as the primary gateway between the monitoring rack and external software or supervisory systems. It supports high-speed serial communication and enables access to vibration monitoring data, rack status, event logs, and configuration parameters without interrupting the protection functions of the monitoring system.
For Triple Modular Redundant systems, the TMR version of the RIM additionally performs continuous monitor voting and channel comparison functions to improve system reliability in critical rotating equipment applications.
The module is engineered for continuous industrial operation in harsh environments including turbine control systems, compressors, generators, pumps, and large process machinery.

FAQ
What is the function of the 3500/20 Rack Interface Module?
The RIM serves as the communication and configuration interface for the entire 3500 monitoring rack. It enables system setup, diagnostic access, and external communication with supervisory systems.
Can the 3500 rack operate without the RIM?
No. One RIM is required in each 3500 rack because it manages rack-level communications and system configuration functions.
Does the RIM affect machinery protection functions?
The RIM is not part of the critical monitoring path. Normal monitoring and protection functions continue independently of the RIM.
What is the difference between the standard RIM and TMR RIM?
The TMR RIM supports Triple Modular Redundant systems and performs monitor voting and channel comparison functions between redundant monitors.
