    PROFINET IO and CEX-Bus Communication

    The CI871A provides the communication path between an AC 800M controller and PROFINET IO devices. The TP867 Baseplate provides two RJ-45 Ethernet connectors; however, only CH1, which supports 100 Mbit/s operation, is used for the PROFINET IO connection.

    The Ethernet cable connects the CH1 interface to the PROFINET IO network through an Ethernet switch. Therefore, the installation must place the required switch between the CI871A interface and the connected PROFINET IO network.

    Internally, the CI871 expansion unit contains CEX-Bus logic, a communication unit, and a DC/DC converter. The converter derives the required operating voltage from the +24 V supply through the CEX-Bus. The CEX-Bus supports a maximum of 12 units.
