ABB S800 I/O ModuleBus Signal Distribution
The TU844 provides electrical termination and routing functions for redundant ABB S800 I/O installations. It distributes two ModuleBuses, with one bus assigned to each I/O module and the outgoing connection extended to the next MTU.
The unit generates module addressing by shifting outgoing position signals through the MTU chain. Therefore, connected I/O modules receive the correct hardware position information without additional software configuration.
The TU844 supports eight I/O channels, where each channel contains two I/O terminals and one ZP connection. Additionally, TY801 individual shunt sticks define the input mode between voltage and current signals. The channel design supports a maximum rated voltage of 50 V and a maximum rated current of 2 A.
The mechanical key system configures compatibility between the MTU and installed I/O modules. Each I/O module position uses two mechanical keys, and each key provides six positions. Therefore, the configuration system supports 36 possible mechanical combinations without changing electrical functionality.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What I/O modules can be connected to the ABB TU844 3BSE021445R1?
A: The TU844 supports ABB S800 I/O modules including AI845, AI880, AI880A, and DP840 modules in redundant configurations.
Q: How does the TU844 select voltage or current input signals?
A: The input selection is performed through individual TY801 shunt sticks. The shunt stick defines whether the channel operates with voltage or current input signals.
Q: Can the TU844 be installed on a standard DIN rail?
A: Yes. The TU844 uses horizontal DIN rail mounting and includes a mechanical latch that locks the MTU to the rail.
Field Installation Guidelines
Install the TU844 on a standard DIN rail with the locking mechanism fully engaged before wiring.
Verify that the mechanical key positions match the installed ABB S800 I/O module type before commissioning.
Use approved terminal wiring methods and maintain correct conductor preparation according to the specified wire range.
Separate signal wiring from high-current power cables to reduce electrical interference.
Connect cable shields according to the plant grounding standard when shielded instrumentation wiring is used.
Confirm TY801 shunt stick positions before applying field signals to prevent incorrect voltage or current input configuration.
Inspect ModuleBus connections between adjacent MTUs before system power-up.
Maintain environmental limits for temperature, humidity, pollution degree, and enclosure protection during installation.
