ModuleBus Distribution and Mechanical Addressing
The TU839 distributes the ModuleBus from the I/O module to the following MTU. It also generates the I/O module address by shifting the outgoing position signals toward the next MTU.
Two mechanical keys configure the MTU for different I/O module types. Each key provides six selectable positions, resulting in 36 possible mechanical configurations. This keying function provides physical configuration only and does not change the electrical functionality of the MTU or I/O module.
Furthermore, the MTU uses a mechanical DIN rail latch for retention. Installers can mount the unit on a standard DIN rail in either supported direction.
Sensor Power Distribution
The TU839 provides two individually isolated process-voltage groups for sensor power distribution. Each group incorporates a 200 mA fuse.
Each of the eight I/O channels provides two I/O connections. The channel rating permits a maximum current of 1 A, while the maximum process-connection current is specified as 10 A.
The fuse rating should match the actual application load and connected sensor requirements. Do not select the fuse solely from the maximum channel rating.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: How many I/O channels does the TU839 support? A: The TU839 supports up to 8 I/O channels, with 2 I/O connections assigned to each channel.
Q: How does the TU839 generate the I/O module address? A: The MTU shifts the outgoing position signals to the next MTU, thereby generating the corresponding I/O module address.
Q: What is the purpose of the two mechanical keys? A: The keys provide physical configuration for different I/O module types. Each key has 6 positions, creating 36 possible mechanical configurations without changing MTU functionality.
Field Installation Guidelines
Mount the TU839 on a compatible standard DIN rail and engage the mechanical latch fully.
Verify the mechanical key positions before installing the associated I/O module.
Connect the ModuleBus according to the intended MTU sequence and verify the outgoing connection toward the next MTU.
Separate process wiring from high-energy switching and power conductors where practical to reduce electrical interference.
Maintain correct polarity and termination for all connected process circuits.
Select the sensor-power fuse rating according to the actual application load and circuit requirements.
Keep the two sensor-power groups electrically separated as specified by the installation design.
Use acceptable conductor sizes from 24-14 AWG or 0.2-2.5 mm2.
Apply the specified 0.5 Nm terminal torque when terminating field wiring.
Verify protective earth and enclosure arrangements according to the applicable installation standard.
Confirm that the installation remains within the specified 0 to +55 deg C operating range.
Maintain the IP20 protection requirements of the installed assembly.
Inspect channel-to-ground and channel-to-channel insulation requirements before energizing the process connections.
